Victoria M. Phaneuf is a post-field work doctoral candidate in Sociocultural Anthropology at the University of Arizona. Since 2007, Victoria has worked on the Fabrication and Shipbuilding Project. Between 2007 and 2009, she conducted eight months of fieldwork centered in Pascagoula, Mississippi and Bayou La Batre, Alabama. As one outcome of this research Victoria has co-authored and edited report chapters and presented her findings at professional meetings such as the Society for Applied Anthropology. Victoria recently renewed her involvement with the Gulf Oil projects in 2012 when she began writing for the Deepwater Horizon Project. In addition to the U.S. Gulf of Mexico region, Victoria’s research interests include minority cultural groups, migration, and identities of place. She has conducted research on the Vermont-Quebec border region and in France. She is currently finishing her dissertation entitled Perception and Intention: North African and Pied-Noir Cultural Associations in France.
